The hydrofraise technique is specially designed for constructing diaphragm walls in hard soils, performing deep excavations, or solving unique construction situations that require a highly reliable and productive method. Here are six of its main advantages:

  1. Capability to construct diaphragm walls in hard soils and rocky substrates with compressive strength of over 150 MPa, where conventional systems would not be viable or would require multiple excavation units. The hydrofraise technique can easily adapt to different types of terrains due to the availability of various hydrofraise types, wheels, and cutting teeth.
  2. The excavation process of the hydrofraise, which combines rotation and thrust, minimizes harmful vibrations to the surroundings and allows work to be done alongside adjacent buildings or sensitive structures. In cases where clearance limitations exist, smaller-sized hydrofraise equipment (less than 5m in height) can be used.
  3. Capability to undertake deep excavations, even exceeding 100 meters, thanks to the equipment specifications and deviation control and correction systems installed on the machine’s frame. These devices ensure that deviations remain below 0.50%, a limit that is challenging to achieve with traditional bucket equipment.
  4. The excavation process and specified verticality tolerances generally result in lower concrete overconsumption compared to conventional methods.
  5. Possibility to create concrete-to-concrete panel joints through overlapping, which provides good results in certain applications without the need for metallic joint formwork.
  6. Localized pouring of excavated material at the desanding plant, eliminating the need for loading equipment and trucks to traverse the work platform. The excavated material, after going through the desanding cycle, has a very low moisture content, facilitating its transportation to a landfill or potential reuse.
